Infinity War review

I know this is a little past due since, if you haven't already seen this film then you must've been frozen in ice for 70 years. It is the No.1 subject everywhere so if you have avoided spoilers up to this stage then you are worthy of Asguards throne. For a spoiler-free paragraph I'm just going to say that I loved it and I don't know as single person who didn't. It has humour, action, suspense, romance, bits that'll make you cheer, bits that'll make you cry and best of all  - a bunch of one-liners that you'll hear mentioned in most conversations with your mates - especially those from Drax. So before I go into further detail I'm going to say, I very much advise you watch it if you haven't already and...

SPOILER WARNING!! IF YOU HAVE, VERY UNLIKELY, NOT SEEN THIS FILM! WATCH IT AND THEN READ THIS BLOG!!

This film blew my brain out of the cinema door into the next cinema screening, bumping into the other audiences blown-brains.There are bits that left you on edge like the Thor and Thanos scene when he stabs Thanos with an axe but then letting Thanos snap his fingers. So yeah, straight in there, Thanos snaps his fingers and destroys half the universe, along with random heroes: Star-Lord, Doctor Strange, Mantis, Drax, Bucky, Black Panther, Groot and saddest of all Spider-man. Which is strange as you may know Spidey has another couple of sequels upcoming and also most of the survivors (Thor, Iron Man, Cap and Hullk's) contracts expire after infinity war. There are many theories on where the people, who dissolved into dust and leaf thingy's, went - I am unsure what to believe but automatically  I thought they went to a parallel universe (like the upside down). Although I had a recent theory that the reality stone made the survivor see them dissolve when actually the survivors went into into a parallel universe and were destroyed but, again with the reality stone, they see life normally. Be expecting a theory from that soon.

Recently films with lots of heroes have felt rushed and out of place *cough* Justice League and *cough* Suicide Squad. This movie didn't cram the heroes in but introduced them in separate ways to not make it feel like they where irrelevant. Although, Clint and Scott weren't in it because of 'house arrest'. The film began with the tragic death of Loki and Heimdall (destrying my theory instantly that he had the soul gem) and Loki says my favourite line in the whole movie 'we have a hulk' (even though Hulks gets his ass kicked and sent to Earth in the next scene). Thanos gets the Teseract and already had  the orb - Thor briefly mentioned that Thanos destroyed Xandar a week ago. This was the one thing I didn't like, how in Guardians they were all about protecting Xandar and the galaxy (but mostly Xandar) and it only got a brief mention that it had been destroyed. The way the Guardians were introduced was the best; it was exactly how they'd do it in a Guardians film. They had their ship flying with the soundtrack of 'The Rubber Band Man' as Quill danced, Drax slept, Gamora sang, and Rocket yawned. They then saw Thor crash into their windshield and the chemistry of Thor and the Guardians was unreal. Star Lord was intimidated and tried to 'out-man' Thor with a fake British accent and the fact he had both eyes. Which reminds me, any errors on posters you may have seen as Thor has both eyes, are not errors as Rocket gave him a eye. Anyway, Rocket and Thor went off to get an axe for Thor with a giant dwarf guy, as Star Lord and the others went to Nowhere in an attempt to retrieve the reality stone. They were too late and Thanos took Gamora. Back on Earth, confused but epic Spiderman, fought alongside, Strange, Wong and Iron Man against Thanos's minions with confusing names. They board the ship and kill one of the minions 'alien' style and crash onto Titan. Quill, Drax and Mantis also go to Titan and think that Strange, Tony and Peter are Thanos's minion and threaten to kill them. Scratch what I said earlier this was the best line it went something a bit like this:

Quill: Where is Gamora?
Tony: I'll do you one better, who is Gamora?
Drax: I'll do you one better, WHY IS GAMORA?

This is the biggest meme at the moment. The fact that Drax felt like he had to be included and interrupted with something that didn't make sense is genius writing - but actually, this line was not in the script it was improvised by Dave Bautista - so now Dave is pretty much worshipped as a god for this one-liner. Anyway, on Earth we see that vision and Scarlet are hiding until they get hunted by others of Thanos's minions and then are saved by Cap, Falcon and Black Widow; this is another cheer out loud moment. They save Vision and Scarlet then they go to Wakanda with all the others 'heroes' on Earth.

So, on Earth we have
Cap
Bucky
Falcon
Black Widow
Scarlet Witch
Bruce Banner
Black Panther
Shuri
Nakia
Vision
War Machine

 And on Titan we have:
Quill
Drax
Mantis
Iron Man
Spidey
Doctor Strange

After a lot of pain to make Thor's axe he finally wields it and has Groots arm for a handle. In the epic battle of the weird Alien Army vs Wakanda, a cool girl fight scene with Black Widow, Nakia, Scarlet Witch and the girl minion - Thor Groot and Rocket join in. All as on Titan, Thanos arrives! The heroes on Titan host a cool battle with Thanos as Iron Man ends up almost dead but Doctor Strange exchanges Tony's life for the Time Stone. This shocked a lot of people as Doctor Strange literally said earlier on that he will not hesitate to let Thanos kill Spidey or Iron Man to protect the Time Stone. But he can see into alternate futures and I think that handing over the Time Stone and Thanos snapping his fingers is, in some unexplained way, the way to win. Back on earth,Vision with the mind stone, is taking too long to Vision - it was meant to be an emotional moment but I have to admit, I really didn't care as this is how Thanos has been stopped from acquiring the final stone. In a twist, Thanos actually uses his power properly and reverses time to get it out his head before Scarlet can destroy it. This bit was a really 'uh-oh' moment when you realise that he can do that. Thor then sends his axe into Thanos's chest and just gives him the 'games over' face and let's Thanos be in pain. But then, he looks up at Thor and says "you should have gone for the head" and snaps... his... fingers!!

And then we see him looking at little Gamora all a sudden and she's all "Did you do it?"
Then Thanos is like "Yeah".
Then she goes "What did it cost?"
And he says "Everything!"

We go back to reality and see Thanos's glove is all crinkled then he disappeared and the list of peeps who I said at the start die dramatically and silently. But then there's the tear jerking "I don't wanna die" bit from Peter half of the Avengers, along with half of the population of the universe dissolve into leaves or mud or whatever. In the end, Thanos sits down on what we think is Titan overlooking the sunrise of a peaceful planet.
In the end of credit scene (surprisingly only one) we see Nick Fury and Maria Hill also dissolve but not before Fury sends a message on an old pager. The message just shows the Captain Marvel logo so we can safely assume it was to her. So that means...

Captain Marvels will play a big role in Part Two!!

So what did you think of the movie? I loved it personally and I don't know anyone who didn't like it! But maybe you didn't so let me know why. The only things I didn't like was Xandar's of screen death, the fact that Drax was not as big a part in the film (as he is in the comics) and I was surprised that Adam Warlock was not in part one and apparently not part two either. It didn't feel it was overloaded with superheroes and all of them had some sort of  chemistry with each other and I loved that. I can't wait for Ant Man and the Wasp, I think it might explain why wasn't in it, he may have gone subatomic and can't get out of the Quantum Realm or are just really tiny - who knows! Anyway, go see the movie if you just ignored the spoiler warning and enjoy! Enjoy all I can say now is thanks for reading this blog!

MCU phase one recap

As you must know, upcoming this Thursday, is Infinity War and I know it seems a bit late coming, but I'm going to (as best as I can) sum up the MCU phase one (Marvel cinematic universe first six films) for those who aren't up to date. But first...

Spoiler warning! I recommend you watch these films before reading but if you're in a rush as you've booked Infinity War tickets then read on! This is aimed as a recap!

Iron man
The first film, Iron man was released in 2008. It cast Robert Downey Jr as millionaire playboy Tony Stark, from New York who sells weaponry for money. One day he gets attacked by terrorists (ironically using his weapons) and held hostage. They replace his hear with an Arc Reactor as they want him alive to build them a missile. Instead (unbeknown to them), he creates the first Iron Man suit (mk 1) and busts out where he's being held hostage and escapes home. He then modifies the suit to make it more humanoid (with more functional weapons). The terrorist group also try to re-create the suit. Tony finds this out. The terrorist leader is revealed as his well known friend Obadiah who has an even bigger Iron Man suit and we see them battle until Obadiah dies in the end. Tony goes home and reveals to the world he is in fact Iron Man, sending the media to go wild.

  The Incredible Hulk
Seven-time PhD holder, nuclear physicist (and big, green, raging beast), Bruce Banner (Edward Norton) is living in the shadows as no-one knows that he is the infamous hulk. The Hulk is a beast that Bruce forms into when he is angry due to a gamma radiation exposure years back. Since then he has been trying to find an antidote to cure it although, some others have different plans. War Mongers would like to use his power by making their own Hulk. Bruce is blackmailed by threatening his love for the secret to his power. The War Mongers think they get all his Hulk-capabilites, making 'The Abomination' but Bruce Banner still carries the hulk inside so we see an epic showdown of the two hulks fighting to the death. Bruce Banner wins ....

  Iron Man 2
We join Tony Stark again in the sequel of Iron Man as others try to recreate his tech, failing miserably. One man, Justin Hammer, succeeds and creates an army of remote-controlled Iron Men recruiting Whiplash - an enemy of Iron Man. One day Tony gets drunk and is acting foolishly wearing the suit. His friend, James Rhodey (later to be called War Machine), steals another of Tony's suits to stop him before he does something stupid. James then goes away and uses the suit to help the military. We are later introduced to Black Widow (Scarlet Johansson) and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson), sent by S.H.I.E.L.D who notice a weird pattern on Tony's chest, showing the Arc reactor is giving him a disease, motivating him to create a triangle shaped arc reactor to cure himself. Eventually, Iron Man and War Machine join forces to fight Whiplash and Jimmy's army in a showdown and surprise, surprise... they win.

 Thor
The fourth film in the MCU is about the Norse god of Thunder Thor (Chris Hemsworth) who is son to the King of Asgard, Odin and is about to take over the throne. The rivals of Asgard, the Frost Giants, from Jotunheim, disturb the ceremony in an attempt to steal the Tesseract (the Space Gem). To enact revenge Thor leads a small group including his brother Loki, Lady Sif and the Warriors Three to Jotunhiem. They battle and are saved by Odin. He had given strict orders to Thor not to battle and as punishment banished Thor to Mid-guard (Earth) where he is separated from his mighty hammer (limiting his abilities). Only a man/woman who is worthy of Asgards throne can wield it. He is then found by Scientists Jane Foster, Darcy and Prof. Erik Selvig in a storm. They investigate his weird entrance whilst S.H.I.E.L.D investigate why no-one can lift Thor's hammer. Thor eventually finds the hammer but realises for the first time he can no longer wield it. Loki appears to tell his  brother he can never return because Odin died and his mother forbids it (Loki, god of Mischief is, of course, lying). Loki wants the throne of Asgard, therefore he sends a metallic giant called the destroyer to earth to kill Thor. It almost succeeds but in the nick of time Thor is seen as worthy again and the hammer flies to him in his moment of need and he destroys the destroyer. Then he confronts Loki, destroying the bi-frost, which can get people from realm to realm to stop Loki from sending the Frost Giants to Asgard. Loki jumps off the bi-frost and is not to be seen until Avengers. But now Thor can no longer return to Earth to see Jane (who has become his girlfriend).

  Captain America: The first Avenger
The last Avenger in phase one - yet known as the first Avenger - is Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). This film is set in WWII and little Steve wants to join the army but is not physically inclined to. He is later accepted into the army by Dr Abraham Erkine who sees he is good on the inside. Howard Stark (Tony Stark's dad) creates a formula to make Steve strong. Steve goes along with it and becomes muscly Captain America who then tries to find Red Skull of HYDRA who went through the same process as Steve but got a Red Skull out of it (hence the creative name!). Cap and his army friends, including his best friend Bucky, go on a mission to find Red Skull, Bucky sadly dies. Cap goes into a one-on-one fight with Red Skull for the Tesseract on a HYDRA plane mid-flight (to stop him having the ability to make powerful weapons). The plane has bombs and was meant to bomb America but Cap flies it into the North Atlantic, freezing himself in the process and is later discovered. The Tesseract plummets deep in the sea. When he wakes from his deep freeze he finds out the war is well and truly over and he has in fact been asleep for 70 years!

Doesn't look like you're the only one with catching up to do!

  Avengers
Finally, the first team up in the MCU happens. Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D came up with an idea to form a team of the world's mightiest heroes consisting of Iron Man, Captain America, Bruce Banner (now Mark Ruffolo), Black Widow and Hawkeye (who is briefly in Thor).

Falling from the Bifrost, Loki emerges in S.H.I.E.L.D HQ with the Scepter (Mind Gem). The Scepter can hypnotise people to follow the wielder, Hawkeye and Prof Erik Solvig are two of his victims and they escape HQ. Nick Fury uses Agent Carson to get Tony; Black Widow to get Banner; and he sets off to enlist Cap, to defeat Loki. They join and find Loki in Germany. They them take him back on their jet but get put on hold by the thunder as Thor appears trying to capture his brother himself to take him home. Tony suits up and stops Thor but then Cap breaks them up after battling. They convince Thor to let them take Loki and they all return to S.H.I.E.L.D. Tony and Banner investigate the scepter with Loki held hostage. Loki starts to cause division within the team with his mind tricks and as Hawkeye (still under Loki's spell) attacks S.H.I.E.L.D, Loki manages to break out. In the process he throws Thor from the plane into the middle of nowhere, getting Bruce angry (we all know what happens when he gets angry), he also falls from the plane and turns back to Banner. At the start of this film we saw mad Titan, Thanos give Loki the Scepter. Loki then gets Prof Erik Solvig (also still under his spell) to open a wormhole which allows Thanos's army into Earth. The army attack NY but the Avengers protect by fighting a huge battle, defeating the army and re-capturing Loki, sending him back to Asgard with Thor. They go their separate ways but all get blamed for the NY damage (even though they saved the Earth!).

 And that's phase one.

Thanks for reading, I hope you enjoyed it. Leave a comment if this has given you a good recap or if you've booked your tickets. I've got mine for opening date then next day at 4DX, can't wait! I hope you now watch or re-watch phase one as it is my second favourite phase after the incomplete third phase. But for now, go ahead and book your tickets for Infinity War - I hope you love it am I'm sure I will. Also take notice of the Gems mentioned as they are key to phase 2-3 and mostly Infinity War! Goodbye!

Thor Ragnarok review part 1

Thor Ragnarok was the fifth film in the third phase of the MCU and hit the cinemas with a bang on the 27th of October.

I just saw Thor Ragnarok and Oh My God!
It's been quite a while since I've done a movie review (my last one was for Rogue One) and I thought it'd be nice too do another one on the new but loved, third film in the Thor trilogy. This film has the potential to be the best film in Marvel history - I loved EVERYTHING about it! Well, I say everything, but every film has flaws and this had kinda noticeable ones within the movie but the rest was hilarious or suspenseful and that is what I look for in good movies.
Before I go on:

!Spoiler warning! Spoilers ahead in this blog!
But, you know you've seen it already
IT'S THOR!!

"Go to hell"

Anyway lets jet into this from the start!
In the very beginning you see Thor wrapped in a chain in some sort of Hell, narrating a story to what we think is us but turns out to be a skeleton opposite him. I found that as quite a funny start of to the movie, until Thor get pulled down to face a 'Lava monster?' Basically a huge guy with horns that is actually a crown. The Monster tells Thor his plans to rule Asgard.
Now this is the thing that annoys me about Marvel villains.
And it's not just Marvel - Lex Luther does it a couple of times to Superman and many other films like Bond! Villains unravel their 'genius' plan to cause mayhem to the the heroes as they are lured to their death but instead of just killing the heroes, they give them a chance to escape  by letting the hero convince them to change their mind which happens a lot in these movies.
Anyway this kind of happens in this movie but it's really just a distraction for Thor to wield his hammer, kick the villains butt and rip the crown off his head to carry on his back.
LIKE A BOSS!

"All hail king... Loki?"

But then it skips to Asgard as Odin (or as we all know from the last movie, is actually Loki shape-shifting) is sitting on his thrown with a Loki statue outside alongside a play of Loki and Thor of how Loki 'died' starring - wait, is that Matt Damon?! Ignoring that, the play is really funny how they make Loki look like an awesome hero of Asgard as 'Odin' gets fed gapes on his throne by women. It looks like Loki has his life made but no, Thor, aka the part-pooper, arrives and crashes the fun by revealing Loki is Odin and the real Odin is missing. Then he takes Loki back to Earth where Loki hasn't been since The Avengers and goes to where Loki left Odin - a care home. They then see the care home being smashed down by a crane as Thor takes a selfie with two girls which again was quite funny!

"Strange, isn't it?"

In order to find Odin they may need help from people with higher powers then them. Maybe Jedi's, Demigods, Iron Man! No, Wizards. Eeer, what?
Yep, the MCU has a wizard and one of them's name is literally called Dr.Strange... and he has a living cape... and is played by Benedict Cumberbatch - okay it's 'strange' (-; - but I think his first movie was greatly done for such a weird concept. And his appearance in Thor was quite funny by the way Thor has absolutely no idea what is going on, but it was a pretty pathetic and brief appearance. He kind of just shows up and goes "oh, here's your father, take him and I'll go out for the rest of the movie and give you back Loki who has literately been falling for the last 20 minutes." Agree? Anyway, they find Odin and talk to him for a while about Asgard and the throne then he perishes into the sky (also he's in Norway btw). He dies pretty quick and less dramatic than it should've been. Still a sad moment but I thought that could've been done better than it was.  Later on, Thor gets mad at Loki, Cate Blanchett (Hella) appears and smashes Thors hammer, Thor and Loki get pushed off the by-frost whilst teleporting to Asgard and land in Sakaar which is a literal realm or dimension where people across the galaxy drop their junk. So it is a huge dustbin, basically.

"The wealthy, the worthy and the... drunk?"

In Sakaar scavengers search the hills of rubbish dropping from the hundreds of portals that appeared in the sky. They mostly looked for 'contestants' for the Colosseum themed 1 on 1 battles with swords and shields, henceforth they find Thor - once again - confused. A couple of scavengers try to take him, then Valkyrie (a drunk woman) beats them to take Thor to her boss who throws the 1 on 1 battle for a hell load of money. It's quite a funny scene, her being drunk, because she falls of the platform and electrocutes Thor. This scene does remind me of when Thor is being put to sleep in the hospital in his first scene, so that was good to see how the humour hasn't changed in a way. After she drags Thor onto his ship with 60's music in the background, he gets taken into the arena and brought to the Grandmaster or 'the boss' (Jeff Goldblum) who throws the battle. He is made quite a  big deal with the others, they kind of worship him like a god. The battle he holds reminds me of the one in 'Attack of the Clones' in Geonosis but they have one 'main event' rather then 3 or 4.

"Another day, another Doug"

As Thor is being introduced to the Grandmaster he spots someone in the crowd and he is none other than Loki himself! Loki claims that he's never seen Thor before as he gets a fresh trim by Stan-Lee. Then he gets put in a holding room his two new friends Mick (a frog with knives for hands that lays eggs whenever he wants) and Korg (a man made out of stones with a kiwi accent played by the directer of the movie). Korg was my favorite character  with one of his best lines being "I was gonna start a revolution once but I didn't hand out enough pamphlets. So only my mum and her boyfriend turned up - who I hate." He seemed so casual but so funny. His friend Mick, on the other hand, was a good character because he was so irrelevant but kept on making a sudden appearance like when he's introduced or when he lays eggs also that bit at the end where he dies because Korg stood on him but then comes back to life (don't ask). Anyway, Thor goes into the battle arena with a short but nice haircut and some sort of war paint on his face. Then the Grandmaster introduces the 'main event' which turns out to be - "...oh what a coincidence, this'll be the second time he's beat me up" - Incredible Hulk!

To be continued .......
